What three words would you use to describe YVC?
Fun, Creative, Eventful
What made you interested in studying at Yakima Valley College?
I’d seen a lot of people in the Running Start program and thought it looked like a good program that would give me a different
experience.
How did you decide on a major?
I really like the business side of things. I don't really like to talk to a lot of
people and communication skills have been a challenge for me so I wanted to focus
on the technical side of business.
What would you say is the most important thing you learned at Yakima Valley College?
The most important thing I’ve learned at Yakima Valley College is that it’s OK to
not pass and it's OK to fail at least one time.
What was your favorite class? How did it expand your knowledge?
English 102 with Margaret France. It was kind of a hard class. [France was compassionate
to her students] she understood that you have things going on and when we would have
our lecture days or we would review over things in class she would interact with us
so we would all interact back with her.
Where there any barriers that you had to overcome to be success at YVC?
Asking for help. I do not ask for help a lot but when I got here, I needed help in
math and my history class. I found help from my instructors during their office hours
or if they weren't available, I’d get help in the Writing Center or Math Center.
What advice do you have for prospective students?
You can do it as long as you ask for help if you need help.
Do you have anything else you’d like to share with us about your experience at YVC?
It was super fun and I’m sad to leave. I’m going to miss the student government the
most because I was with them every day after class or every day before class. I learned
a lot about leadership and teamwork. Sometimes if somebody was missing we would have
to jump in and help out.
