The Retired And Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

Program Information:

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is made possible by a grant from Americorps Seniors. With a current 16 service stations across the Yakima Valley, the program offers a wide-range of opportunities for seniors to put their myriad skills and knowledge to work in the places where their help is most needed. Those who serve are provided with extra insurance coverage and are recognized at local RSVP events.

Eligibility:

Volunteers must be at least 55 years of age. Some project options include People for People, multiple food banks, Project Warm Up (knitting and/or crocheting warm things to distribute to those in need over the winter months), museums, Medicare registration assistance, and Habitat for Humanity.

  • Creates connections for seniors aged 55+ who have a desire to serve in the valley
  • Multiple stations and volunteer positions to choose from so that each participant can tap into their existing skills and passions
  • Service hours are flexible and are tracked so that each participant is recognized for their time and efforts
  • Combats isolation by building community between volunteers
  • Provides supplemental insurance, including coverage for trips to and from service stations, for senior volunteers
  • Enhances the quality of life for hundreds of volunteers and the marginalized people they serve
  • Promotes health and wellness through activity, socialization, and purpose
