Required Statements
Non-discrimination statement
Federal law requires Yakima Valley College to include a non-discrimination statement in all publications (including brochures, pamphlets, posters and flyers) distributed to students or the general public. The exceptions include instructional materials and documents used in the classroom. Each YVC employee is responsible for ensuring the requirements in this guide are met in both print and digital publications.
Use the appropriate statement according to the guidance below. For questions about which statement to use, email the Community Relations department.
Statement: Yakima Valley College does not discriminate against any person based on their race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation and/or gender identity, age, marital status, the presence of any sensory, mental or physical disability, the use of a trained dog guide or service animal by a person with a disability, honorably discharged veteran or military status, genetic information, or any other prohibited basis in admission, treatment, or participation in its programs, services and activities, or in employment. Approved Uses
The above statement is the shortest allowable version of the non-discrimination statement. Its uses are limited to only those documents where it would not be possible to include longer versions:
- Post Cards 5.5” x 8.5” and smaller
- Digital advertisements 1,000px x 1,000px and smaller
Procedure
- Use the approved non-discrimination statement on all promotional documents that contain
the Yakima Valley College logo. The non-discrimination statement must be no smaller
than 7pt font and in a YVC-approved font (not all caps).
- The non-discrimination statement should be in a visible location at the bottom of the document.
- Posters for musical/theatrical performances are not required to include the non-discrimination statement. However, if accommodations are available to the audience, it is helpful to print contact information for these services.
- Posters providing campus information for services (tutoring/advising/rooms/times etc.) do not require a non-discrimination statement.
It is a federal requirement to include the following text on documents produced with funding from the Carl D. Perkins Act.
Statement: The contents and/or printing of this publication were developed with funds from the Carl D. Perkins Act.
This text should appear at the bottom of the final page of the document in legible font size. No smaller than 7pt font.
The purpose of the Perkins Act is to prepare students to enter the workforce with the academic and vocational skills needed to complete successfully in a knowledge and skill-based world economy. Perkins supports career and technical education that prepares students both for further education and the careers of their choice. Perkins funds help ensure that career and technical programs are challenging and integrate academic and technical education to meet the needs of business and industry.
