What three words would you use to describe YVC?
Future, Unique, Flexible
What’s your favorite class? How has it expanded your knowledge?
My favorite class is Business& 101 because it has given me a lot of knowledge in business and it has made me expand my knowledge not only in mathematics, but also in marketing. These business functions will help me in the future. In addition,
the teacher is super good.
Who is your mentor on campus? Why do you consider this person a mentor?
My mentor on campus is Annamaria Delaluz. She has become a very important person [to me] because she helps in times when I don't know what to do. She always gives me support
at school, she talks to me and gives me advice. She is an incredible person and great
human being, and she is also very intelligent and without her I would be lost right
now.
What made you want to come to YVC?
I wanted to come to YVC to be close to my family. I received a good scholarship [to
study] at a university but the cost of living somewhere else would have been expensive.
Plus, I thought about the possibilities of being away from the people that could help
me [during] times of stress. YVC was [an] exciting [option] because it is a good place
where they support me and where I can grow as a person.
How did you decide on a major?
I decided to study business because I would like to be a human resources manager and help people. I have always wanted to [pursue] a career to help people and businesses.
I saw human resources [as the type] of the field in which I could make a change.
Were there any barriers that you had to overcome to be success at YVC?
One of the barriers that I overcame to be successful at YVC was to improve my English,
which I do every day because every day I learn more. [Another barrier] is the financial
issue. I hope to be able to apply for more scholarships and receive more aid to be able to help pay for my studies.
What do you find most interesting about your major?
What I like about my major is that there are many possibilities and things I can do
and work on by studying business. Basically, it is an open door for new opportunities.
Where do you find your community on campus?
CAMP is where I find my community on campus because it is something that represents
me.
What advice do you have for prospective students?
My advice to future students is to try to do what they want to do and to fight for
what they believe and want. YVC is a wonderful school full of opportunities that will
open the doors to you to become a successful person. [It] definitely changes your
future.
What’s your favorite spot on campus?
I live in Grandview but I really like the library on both campuses. The Yakima and Grandview [libraries] are social gathering places
that I like to go to and do homework.
How has YVC changed you?
YVC changed me by showing me a new perspective on things and it gave me a Future. It showed me a person that I never imagined to be.
How do you manage stress?
I live with my parents because the YVC Grandview Campus is close to my home and my family helps me a lot to not be so stressful. For people that might not be
in this situation I feel that friends, mentors, or teachers are great [options] to help
you manage stress.
What do you view as your biggest achievement at YVC?
Getting into YVC has been my biggest achievement. Because of the opportunities that
YVC is giving me and also being in CAMP it has showed me the new person that I can
be.
Did you receive any financial aid or scholarship funding to attend YVC? If so, please
describe how this helped you on your journey.
I received financial aid and a scholarship to attend YVC. This helped me a lot because without it I wouldn’t be able to afford [college].
What is your goal? Where would you like to end up?
My goal is to keep growing at YVC. I would like to do my four years here and I would like to be able to do amazing things with my business degree — in a company to be able to work with people and help people.
