What made you interested in studying at Yakima Valley College?
The environment, their academics, and their Running Start Program.
How did you decide on a major?
I decided to major in computer science based on the first computer science class I
took during my freshman year in high school.
What would you say is the most important thing you learned at Yakima Valley College?
The most important thing I learned at Yakima Valley College is that there are always
people there to help you and encourage you through your college experience. I also
learned that it is always OK to ask for help and to never be shy about asking questions.
What was your favorite class? How did it expand your knowledge?
My two favorite classes were calculus with Tim Brown and physics with Stephen Rodrigue.
Not only were these instructors helpful and taught well, but they expanded your knowledge
in the way that everything they taught connected to the outside world.
Who was your mentor on campus? Why do you consider this person your mentor?
Michelle Perry, from the Grandview Math Center and Tutoring Center. She always asked how classes were going, and if she did not know the answer to one
of my questions, she would reach out to others.
What advice do you have for prospective students?
The advice I would give prospective students is to never be afraid to ask questions
in class, socialize with others and, most importantly, be involved in clubs and take
advantage of all the resources and opportunities they offer, such as tutoring centers,
scholarships, office hours, etc.
Do you have anything else you’d like to share with us about your experience at YVC?
I was a tutor at Yakima Valley College in Grandview at the Math and Tutoring Center
for my two whole years at YVC. I tutored algebra, calculus and some other classes
that I took at YVC. I have also been on the President’s List since my first quarter.
