Supportive, Encouraging, Challenging 

What’s your favorite class? Why? How has it expanded your knowledge? 
My favorite class was writing because it challenged my notion of what writing 

actually is and it taught me that writing is articulated thought. 

What made you interested in studying at YVC? 
I was interested in studying at YVC because I needed to get my GED. 

How did you decide on a major? 
As I was pursuing my GED through the I-BEST program (I-BEST enable students to develop both their literacy and job skills as they prepare for the workforce and continued study in college) they offered the opportunity to acquire certifications, one of which was pharmacy assistant. 

 What do you like or find most interesting about your major? 
I like helping people and through my certification I am able to do that. 

What’s your favorite spot on campus? 
The HUB (Hopf Union Building). 

Are there any barriers that you’ve overcome to be successful at YVC? 
Some challenges that I face are being a first-time mom while attending in-person and online classes. 

 How has Yakima Valley College changed you? 
YVC has made me be more considerate of my time and more productive at school as well as at home. 

How do you manage stress? 
I like to get fresh air by taking walks to manage stress. 

 What do you view as your biggest achievement at YVC? 
Acquiring my Pharmacy Assistant license is my greatest achievement at YVC. 

 Did you receive any financial aid or scholarship funding to attend YVC? If so, please describe how this helped you on your journey. 
Yes, I received financial aid. This has helped me tremendously due to me being a stay-at-home mom. 

 What is your ultimate goal? Where would you like to end up? 
Becoming a pharmacy technician with an associate degree is my main goal for right now. Although, I would like to end up with my doctorate degree and eventually be a pharmacist. 

 What advice do you have for prospective students? 
If you're considering the I-BEST program the success of the program is directly dependent on the effort you put in.
