Join Yakima Valley College’s Astronomy program for a close-up look at the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn and more celestial objects on Sunday, November 19 from 6 – 7 p.m. outside of Glenn Anthon Hall, Building #4.
Members of the public will have an opportunity to view the night skies through the college’s two 12-inch reflecting telescopes during the event. Questions about the bodies being viewed and other astronomical topics will be answered by YVC Astronomy Instructor Zach Schierl, who developed and led astronomy and dark sky stewardship programs across the western U.S. as an education specialist and park ranger for the National Park Service before joining YVC’s faculty.
There is no charge to participate in the Astronomy Night.
YVC offers a beginning level course of astronomy which seeks to describe the workings of the solar system and its various components, the structure of the universe as we see it, and the theories behind the origins of the universe’s many components.
NOTE: Telescope viewing is weather permitting. If skies are too cloudy, the event will be re-scheduled for a later date.
