Yakima Valley College has announced that Head Baseball Coach Kyle Krustangel has resigned his position to focus on an expanded role with the Yakima Valley Pippins of the Northwest League.
“First, I would like to say thanks to the YVC administration, athletic department, and community of Yakima for supporting our program the past 7 years. We had hundreds of student-athletes who excelled on and off the field during our tenure,” said Krustangel. “Most importantly, thanks to my staff over the years—Cash, Kelly, Jordan, Ben, Tyler, and Riley for their many efforts and providing me with the best assistant coaches I could ask for.”
Hired in 2015, Krustangel coached the Yaks for seven seasons and leaves with an overall record of 203-95. His inaugural 2016 team won the East Region title before winning the overall NWAC championship and being named the NWAC’s “Coach of the Year.” His 2018 squad again won the East Region prior to finishing second overall at the NWAC tournament and his 2021 team ended the year on an 18-game winning streak (the NWAC tournament wasn’t held due to COVID.) Prior to coaching at YVC, Krustangel was an assistant coach at Whitworth University from 2014-15 and the head baseball coach at Bridgeport (Wash.) High School from 2011-14.
“We are thankful for the efforts Kyle put into running the baseball program at YVC,” said Director of Athletics Ray Funk. “He returned the Bill Faller Championship Trophy back to YVC after a 33-year hiatus and we wish him the best in his future.”
