The Yakima Valley College STEM pathway in partnership with The Museum of Flight, Washington Aerospace Scholars and the College Success Foundation hosts a movie screening and aerospace career panel on Friday, December 8 from 5 – 9 p.m. in the YVC Conference Center, Building #38, 1704 W. Nob Hill Blvd. This free event includes a movie screening of the film, “A Million Miles Away,” inspired by the real-life story of NASA flight engineer José Hernández. The screening will be followed by a panel of prominent aerospace professionals.

“A Million Miles Away” follows Hernández on a decades-long journey from a rural village in Michoacán, Mexico, to more than 200 miles above the Earth in the International Space Station. With the support of his family, his drive and determination culminates in the opportunity to achieve his seemingly impossible goal.
The career panel includes Brent Justice, test automation engineering from Stoke Space; Erin Acuña aerophysics engineer, and Joshua Ernesto Aviles, thermal engineer, with Blue Origin; and Lordes Cruz, liaison manager for the Boeing Company.
Washington Aerospace Scholars aims to increase the number of students seeking degrees and careers in STEM fields through academic study, project-based learning and experimentation with an emphasis on critical thinking and self-evaluation.
