The Larson Gallery will present the annual Yakima Valley College Department of Visual Arts (DoVA) exhibition from May 6 through May 31. This annual exhibit presents artwork in a variety of media created within the last year by students. Student work is chosen from Spring and Fall quarters of 2024 and Winter quarter of 2025.

Works in the show were created by students in classes including ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and design taught on YVC’s Yakima and Grandview campuses. A large selection of the students’ best work makes this one of the favorite exhibitions of the year and a wonderful opportunity to purchase art. In addition to student artwork, each of YVC’s art instructors will have a piece in the exhibit showing the creativity of their own personal work.

“I am fully aware as an instructor of the rare and extraordinary opportunity it is to have one show slot a year for student artwork,” said Kayo Nakamura, who teaches drawing courses at YVC and has several students from her classes participating in this year’s DoVA exhibition. “It’s always a treat to be able to invite students to participate, and at this beginning level this type of encouragement can be especially important.”

YVC’s art program fosters an awareness of the making of art as well as the interpretation and development of art across cultures and time, and the relevance of art to daily experience. The partnership between the college and the gallery provides an avenue for college faculty and students to showcase their artwork in a professional gallery each year.

An opening reception will be held 5 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6. During the reception a variety of awards will be presented to student artists by YVC faculty, the Larson Gallery, ASYVC and more. There is no charge for admission to the gallery. For more information about this show contact the gallery at 509.574.4875 / gallery@yvcc.edu.
