On Wednesday, November 13 at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. YVC’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Allied Health programs in partnership with the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board (NPAIHB) will host a workshop designed to help students going into healthcare careers in meeting the needs of their future patients.
The workshop, “Creating 2SLGBTQ+ Affirming Clinical Spaces,” will cover topics including healthcare access and barriers for diverse populations, cultural connection and spiritual connectedness and resiliency measures. The training also will cover implications and best practices for providers and those in the helping professions to better meet the needs of 2SLGBTQ+ patients and community members. Training staff will share tribal history, practice examples and scenarios, personal narratives, as well as additional resources for continued education and support for attendees.
Paths (Re)Membered centers on the Two Spirit and LGBTQ+ community — its strengths, resiliencies and histories — in a movement toward health equity. Through community engagement, research and advocacy, NPAIHB works toward a liberated 2SLGBTQ+ future, which includes the memories of Two Spirit ancestors, the wisdom of elders, and the creativity of young people.
