About Teana Robbins
My passion for the field of Criminal Justice began shortly after I graduated from Washington State University, beginning in state parole working with the youthful offender population. I started teaching shortly thereafter as an evening adjunct instructor for YVC on the Grandview campus while in conjunction with parole duties. I have thoroughly enjoyed the work, challenges and networking experiences with each position, task force, and committee I was a part of during my parole experience and enjoy sharing with students to help illustrate points in our CJ topic discussions.
Presently, I hold the positions of Criminal Justice Instructor, Department Head and Program Chair of the Criminal Justice program. It is within these different functions that I appreciate working with students in a variety of capacities. Some of which are as an academic advisor, guiding students through Cooperative Field Experiences, working with students obtaining a transfer degree, as well as students intending to enter the workforce after completing their two-year degree in areas of law enforcement, courts, and corrections. The CJ program and courses are practical and ideally fit for students who want an actuality view of work being done in the CJ profession.
Now for some fun facts. I have been married for 34 years to my best friend and together we have a couple of terrific kids, twins in fact. Much of our parenting years have been spent in bleachers watching and supporting them play a variety of sports. We are the ultimate (loud) parent fans! I am also a K9 handler of 28 years with the Yakima County Sheriff Search and Rescue program. I have handled working K9’s in the disciplines of Urban/Wilderness Trailing, Wilderness Area Search, Evidence and Human Remains Detection (AKA: Cadaver dog, Sniffer Dogs). My passion is molding a pup into a reliable working dog which I am currently doing with a young Labrador Retriever. I also train new handlers and provide education to the public and law enforcement on the capabilities K9’s can offer. Amazing creatures!
