About Deniele Fleming

I am deeply passionate about my role at Yakima Valley College (YVC) and the opportunity to teach our incredible students. As an alumnus of YVC and the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) program, I have firsthand experience of the transformative power of education and community support. This personal journey fuels my commitment to giving back and helping others navigate their paths to personal and professional growth.

Teaching at YVC is a privilege. Our students bring a wealth of lived experiences and a genuine desire to make a difference. Many have faced substance-related challenges themselves and are driven to use their experiences to support others. This shared sense of purpose creates a unique and supportive learning environment where we all grow together.

Students should consider taking my classes because they are designed to be both academically rigorous and deeply empathetic. I strive to create a space where students feel valued and heard, and where their personal experiences are seen as strengths. The courses are tailored to provide a comprehensive understanding of addiction and recovery that is essential for a holistic approach to this field.

My academic background includes an undergraduate degree in Sociology and a master’s in Addiction Counseling. I am an active member of the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC). This affiliation keeps me connected to the latest research and best practices in the field, which I eagerly bring into the classroom.

Beyond my professional interests, I am deeply committed to restorative justice practices, mentoring youth, and volunteering within the Yakima community. These activities not only enrich my life but allow me to offer students practical insights and real-world applications of their studies, which broadens my perspective and brings fresh ideas into my work.

Together, we can make a meaningful impact on our community and beyond. I look forward to embarking on this journey with you.
