About Claire

How do we digest our food?  How do our cells convert food molecules into a form of energy that our body can use?  How do we grow as children and maintain our tissues as adults?  How can these growth processes go awry to cause cancer? Why do children look somewhat similar (but not identical) to their parents and their siblings? Why can some people consume dairy as adults while others cannot?  How much do the microbes that live in and on us contribute to our state of health or disease?  These are the kinds of biological questions that fascinate me, and I feel lucky to be able to explore these topics with students in biology classes at YVC.

Whether students are intending to major in biology, take biology coursework as prerequisites for a health care program, or are just exploring a new academic area, the chance to share my love of biology makes my job teaching at YVC a deeply satisfying one.
