About Anthony

I have lived in Central Washington for most of my life and grew up in Mattawa. After years away in Seattle and Tucson, Arizona, I am grateful to be back home, living and working in Yakima. My wife and I have two young kids who are so much fun. They keep us busy playing, swimming, and traveling to visit friends and family. I have been at YVC since 2015 and love teaching Communication Studies at our college. Collaborating with students is exciting and I invite you to join me in an upcoming quarter.

In my courses, we spend a lot of time discussing relationship communication – whether that is with friends, family, coworkers, or romantic partners. Effective communication is more than just talking; it is about listening, understanding, and adapting to others. So, we explore content on how to navigate conflict, manage impressions, and develop strong relationships. We approach all that with the goal of maintaining positive, constructive communication.

Academically, I specialize in Political and Sports Communication. Both are fascinating, evolving scholarly areas. Beyond research, I also love analyzing romantic relationship communication. Relationships can be complex and dynamic, but social science theories help us make sense of our experiences. Equally important, we can apply those ideas in meaningful ways. Ultimately, that is what I enjoy most about teaching Communication Studies – helping students turn course concepts into practical skills that strengthen relationships.
