January 14 – February 25, 2023
This winter, the Larson Gallery is hosting an exhibit that promises to bring in flocks of people. “Put a Bird on it” was inspired by several bird-themed paintings that were included in the Art Works Northwest exhibit held at the gallery in March 2022. Artists Karen Powers, Maja Shaw, Sally Green and Pam Sharp, who were featured in the Art Works exhibit, were invited by Larson Gallery Director David Lynx to participate in the upcoming show.
“It reminded me of the skit in the popular show ‘Portlandia,’ where characters Bryce Shivers and Lisa Eversman, played by Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, enter a shop and place birds on items to, as Lisa says ‘make it pretty’,” said Lynx.
With this inspiration Lynx decided to host an entire exhibit focused on our feathered friends. This show will also feature the work of artist Beverly Eckmann, who participated in the fall Women Painters of Washington exhibit and local artists John Barany, James Nelson and Bill Brennan.
“The show features a montage of artists,” said Lynx. “John Barany creates birds from wood. James Nelson, who works with raptors, has created sketches of raptors for bird training. Bill Brennan’s work includes painting of herons. Beverly Eckman will feature a variety of work centered on the theme.”
Nelson will also bring a live raptor to the exhibit opening on January 14.
