New homepage elevates student voices and more
In early September, Yakima Valley College unveiled a new look to its homepage — giving a facelift to the institution’s virtual front door for the first time in several years.
The updated homepage offers prospective students and others a more engaging and welcoming introduction to the YVC community through more attractive visual content, student profiles, the latest content from the college’s social media channels and more.
“For prospective students and other community members, coming to the college’s homepage is one of their first impressions of YVC,” said Dustin Wunderlich, director of community relations. “So with our new homepage, we wanted to share the stories of the YVC community. That means putting student voices and experiences at the forefront. It means showing the academic pathways that we offer. We want future students to see there’s a place for them at YVC and our faculty and staff are here to help them achieve their goals.”
Among the new pieces of content featured on the homepage are:
- Information about the college’s academic pathways with links to learn more about degrees and certificates available in each pathway.
- A new section highlighting in-depth profiles of students that will showcase the YVC community’s diversity and help prospective students envision themselves at the college.
- News stories that will now include a photo and brief description, rather than just a headline linking to the story.
- A “YVC by the numbers” section with facts and figures that provide insight into the YVC community.
- A “Getting started at YVC” section with important links and information for prospective students.
- The latest posts from the college’s official social media channels.
In conjunction with the homepage refresh, the college also launched a new webpage that is a hub for student profiles being featured on the homepage.
“It’s incredibly inspiring to hear the stories of students who’ve overcome challenges and gotten on a pathway to success during their time at YVC,” Wunderlich said. “We want people to hear those stories and learn what a vibrant community we enjoy here.”
