How to Apply for Financial Aid
Steps to Apply for Financial Aid
To qualify for financial aid, you need to apply. In Washington, there are two different applications for financial aid, but you only need to file one.
- File the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) if you are a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
- File the WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) if you are not eligible to file the FAFSA due to immigration status.
You will need to apply for an FSA ID at studentaid.gov if this is your first FAFSA. You will sign your application using your FSA ID. Dependent students’ parents will also need to create an FSA ID. Be sure to write down the ID and password as you will use them each year to renew your FAFSA.
OtterBot:
OtterBot is a free texting service to support all Washington high school students and their parents/guardians with info about financial aid and college planning. To get started, students can text “Hi OtterBot” to 360-928-7281.
YVC’s Financial Aid Office receives your FAFSA data and requests information from you. Be sure to regularly check your YVC email. You can also find the information that we request on the Financial Aid Student Portal. You can review your Student Aid Report (SAR) on the FAFSA website for accuracy and make any corrections to your SAR.
YVC delivers your refund with BankMobile Disbursements, a technology solution, powered by BMTX, Inc. Learn more about the BankMobile Disbursements platform and how it delivers financial aid refunds and other credit balances to students.
