Register for Classes
Class registration at Yakima Valley College (YVC) is dependent on a student’s current enrollment status. A student is typically one of the following: new student, transfer student, current student, former student, or non-degree seeking student. All students are required to meet course prerequisite requirements, which may mean a placement test will be required prior to enrollment.
New Students
New degree/certificate seeking students must apply for admission and register for classes at New Student Orientation (NSO). To make an appointment for NSO, contact the Office of Admissions at 509.574.4712. Failure to attend NSO will result in the student being unable to attend YVC for that quarter. Students may take NSO in Grandview as well. Please contact 509.882.7000 for dates and times.
Transfer Students
Transfer students seeking a degree/certificate must apply for admission and submit their official transcripts to YVC. A transfer student is a student with more than 30 transferable college-level credits.
Current Degree/Certificate Seeking Students
Degree/certificate seeking students that are currently attending classes at YVC will automatically be assigned a registration date. The registration date will be according to the cumulative number of credits the student has at YVC and from previous colleges (to a maximum of 60 credits). Priority is given to students with more credits.
Students can log-in to the student portal to obtain their registration date. Students are also encouraged to view the Important Dates Calendar to see when the class schedule is released, tuition due dates, and the start and end times of the quarter. To register for classes, the student logs into the student portal and proceeds to registration.
Returning Students
Degree/certificate seeking students who are returning to YVC after an absence of three quarters or less, excluding summer quarter, can contact the Office of Registration & Records to request a registration date. The registration date will be assigned according to the number of cumulative credits on their college transcript and transfer credits (to a maximum of 60 credits) if applicable. Students are highly encouraged to contact their advisor to make an advising appointment to determine their class schedule. Students can then register online or in person on their registration date.
Degree/certificate seeking students who are returning to YVC after an absence of four or more quarters, excluding summer quarter, are required to re-apply to YVC. Students should contact the Office of Admissions for more information.
Non-Degree Seeking Students
Students that are not seeking a degree/certificate from YVC may register for classes during open enrollment. For open enrollment dates, please view the Important Dates Calendars. Non-degree seeking students may enroll for up to 11 credits and are not eligible for financial aid.
Summer Quarter
There is no registration dates assigned to students for Summer Quarter registration. All students can register on the day registration opens. Please view the Important Dates Calendars for exact dates. Summer Quarter registration is based on a first come-first served basis.
