Our goal is to prepare you for high demand, high wage occupations, and provide businesses with well-prepared workers.
Programs include classroom instruction and hands-on experience in campus labs as well as work-based learning opportunities. There are opportunities for students to work on short-term skills development or certificates and degrees, depending on their short- and long-term goals.

Tuition Assistance Programs
The following programs are special funded programs that are based upon your income and other criteria.
Basic Food Employment and Training (BFE&T)
YVC’s Basic Food, Employment and Training (BFE&T) provides services to Basic Food (Food Stamp) recipients in Washington State. Services may include establishing or maintaining eligibility for Basic Food while in school, child care subsidy, job search training and other support services.
BFE&T Provides
- Eligibility for Working Connections Child Care through the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS)
- Eligibility to receive Basic Food Benefits (Food Stamps) while enrolled in college
- Financial assistance with college related expenses
- Support Services
Displaced Homemaker
The Displaced Homemaker program at Yakima Valley College provides training to individuals who are making the difficult transition from home and financial dependence to the work place and financial independence.
YVC’s Displaced Homemaker program offers training in basic skills and literacy, occupational skills and vocational education. We offer a wide range of professional-technical programs within the Workforce Education Division that are available to Displaced Homemaker students.

Early Achievers (EAG) serves eligible students who are currently employed in an actively-participating Early Achievers child care facility. EAG provides up to 52 credits of college tuition toward ECE training and up to $1,000 per year toward the cost of books along with additional student support services.
Opportunity Grants are awarded to low-income students who are enrolled in specific high-demand career pathway programs at YVC.
To be eligible you must:
- Be a Washington State resident
- Have a current FAFSA and have financial need based on the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
- OR current WASFA (free Washington Application for State Financial Aid)
- Meet income guidelines
- Are successfully passing their classes with a cumulative 2.0 GPA and meet YVC’s
- Be enrolled in any of the following I-BEST (Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training) programs or career pathway programs at the college
WorkFirst
WorkFirst at Yakima Valley College, can help TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) recipients can gain the skills they need to prepare for a better job.
TANF parents can achieve their educational goals by enrolling in a variety of vocational and training programs. WorkFirst students are also eligible to receive financial assistance to pay for tuition, fees and books.
Worker Retraining
Worker Retraining provides assistance to individuals who are receiving Washington State Unemployment Insurance benefits or have lost their job due to economic changes and need to change careers in order to re-enter the workforce.
YVC’s Worker Retraining offers training for a wide range of professional-technical certificates and degrees within the Workforce Education Division.
Eligible Worker Retraining students may receive tuition assistance and/or funds to cover the cost of books for ONE quarter at Yakima Valley College.
Earn College Credit in High School
CTE Dual Credit
High school students have the opportunity to get a jump start on their career by preparing for a college technical degree program at their local high school. They can earn both high school and community/technical college credit (this is called Dual Credit) for completing select high school courses with a grade of “B” (3.0) or better.
