Learn about which placement test you may need to take. The placement tests, offered in English, ESL, and Math, will provide us current information about your abilities, and skills in the subject. The goal of placement is to assess skills to ensure students are able to successfully engage with course content and have the best chances at passing the course. Most courses at Yakima Valley College (YVC) have placement prerequisites for writing and math ability.
College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) This program allows students from a wide range of ages and backgrounds to demonstrate
their mastery of introductory college-level material and earn college credit. Students
can earn credit for what they already know by getting qualifying scores on the examinations.
The nationally recognized DSST Program helps you receive college credits for learning acquired outside the traditional classroom through a suite of more than exams in college subject areas such as Social Sciences, Math, Applied Technology, Business, Physical Sciences and Humanities. A form of prior learning assessment, DSSTs offer students a cost effective, time saving way to use their knowledge acquired outside of the classroom.
All testing registration, scheduling, and score reporting is managed at www.ged.com. YVC offers non-credit courses intended to prepare students for the GED test. GED
Preparation is offered to students interested in studying for the GED exam through
individualized and classroom support.
YVC offers the ATI TEAS test. The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is required
for all students seeking admission to the YVC Nursing Program. This test is intended
for students who have completed or are near completion of required prerequisite coursework
as some content in the exam may relate to content in these courses.
Proctoring services are available at the both testing centers. Proctored Student Testing is for students requiring a test for a YVC course, TEAS testing for nursing, or test for another college that must be completed within a monitored computer lab. Please contact the testing centers for times and fees.
YVC offers Pearson Vue testing. All testing registration and scheduling will be managed
through the Pearson VUE website.
