Wine Continuing Education Course Descriptions

All continuing education courses are offered at the Grandview campus
unless otherwise noted.


GRANDVIEW CAMPUS
Winery Compliance:
Coming in Late March or Early April (TBD)
Learn both the federal and state regulations. The TTB will give a presentation in the morning and then the WSLCB will present in the afternoon. Information covered will include application overview, alternations, custom crushers and bonded wineries, basic recordkeeping and label requirements and a clear explanation of the small producer tax credit, etc. The WSLCB will also walk attendees through the process of filling out the forms.

Vinquiry Seminars:
Introduction to Sensory Evaluation and Descriptive Analysis
April 2, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.
Fee per person $150
In this 2 1/2 hour seminar participants will learn basic concepts of sensory physiology and will be given an overview of sensory evaluation and descriptive analysis.

Mouthfeel Seminar
April 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.
Fee per person $150
This 2 hour seminar will present several approaches to evaluating wine mouthfeel. Using a structured method, participants will evaluate mouthfeel attributes in both commercial and treated wines.

Wine Sensory Defects
April 30, 2008 at 10:00 a.m
Fee per person $200
This 2½ hour seminar will discuss how defective aromas and flavors originate in wine and what to do to prevent their formation.

Winery Analysis: When, Why, and How
April 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.
Fee per person $135
This 2 1/2 hour seminar on lab analysis will include instructions on when in the winemaking process analysis must be run and why it is important. The second section will cover the basics of lab equipment and what parameters need to be considered when setting up your own winery laboratory.

Sanitation Workshop
July 16, 2008
Fee per person $200
This 3 hour seminar given by Randy Worobo, Ph.D. of Cornell University and Vinquiry’s Microbiologist will cover several aspects of cellar sanitation. Randy Worobo will educate winery staff on proper procedures of sanitation and storage including chemicals and techniques used in wineries.
